First Bay is a boutique property management firm that specializes in multi-tenant industrial and retail assets throughout Eastern Ontario and Atlantic Canada.

Jonah Bonn – Founder

Jonah Bonn is the Founder of First Bay. He is active in the management of a portfolio of commercial and industrial real estate in Ottawa and Atlantic Canada.

Jonah is a Registered Professional Planner and a Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners.  He is also a licensed mortgage broker with the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario and is also a member of the Canadian Mortgage Brokers Association of Ontario.  Jonah served on the Board of Directors of the Independent Mortgage Brokers Association of Ontario from 2009 to 2014.

Jonah was formerly the Chief Operating Officer and Principal Broker of Ontario Wealth Management Corporation (“Owemanco”), the manager and administrator of a $250 million private mortgage fund, focusing on short-term (bridge), and construction financing transactions.  He currently serves a member of the Owemanco Mortgage Trust’s investment committee.

Prior to joining Owemanco in 2004, Jonah worked for several years at a land development company based in Ottawa where he was responsible for managing the finances and planning functions for a portfolio of urban development parcels. Before that, he was employed as an auditor at KPMG Chartered Accountants LLP in Toronto.

Given Jonah’s diverse background and unique skill set, he is often engaged to assist lenders and restructuring professionals in complex real estate workouts.

Jonah attended the University of Ottawa from 1992 to 1997 where he earned a B.Sc. and B.A.. He went on to earn a Master’s degree in Management and Professional Accounting from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto in 1999.  Jonah now resides in Ottawa with his wife and two children.

 
 

Brian Gold, Partner and General Counsel

Brian Gold is a partner and general counsel to First Bay.

He is involved in overall strategy for First Bay from a legal and business perspective.

Brian formerly practiced real estate law in Ottawa in a firm where he was also managing partner.

Brian Gold entered the business world in 1989 when he joined with 2 other partners to grow Huneault Waste Management Ltd. (“Huneault”) into an integrated waste management firm with a licensed landfill and transportation fleet. Huneault was sold in 2000 to what is today BFI.

From 2000 until he joined First Bay, Brian acquired and managed investment properties for a close network of business associates and family.

Brian Gold chaired the Temple Israel (Ottawa) Foundation for 8 years. He also served on the boards of the Rideau Waterway Land Trust and Dance Collection Danse a national dance archive and publishing organization.  Brian is currently on the Board of Directors of Tamir Foundation, a social services agency that is dedicated to assisting people with developmental disabilities.

Jonah and Brian have collaborated on several real estate transactions over the past 13 years with a focus on community retail plazas, multi-tenant light industrial buildings, and suburban land development. To learn more about our property management, please click here.

Shannon Cheng, Property Accountant

Shannon Cheng serves as First Bay Properties’ property accountant and financial analyst. In addition to being responsible for the daily accounting functions and preparation of financial statements, she assists with lease administration.

Shannon holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) with specialization in Accounting from the Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa.

Prior to joining First Bay, Shannon Cheng was employed as a property accountant at Capital Integral Property Management, one of Ottawa’s large condominium managers.

Originally from Luoyang in the Henan province of China, Shannon immigrated to Canada in 2007 with her parents and settled in Kingston where she completed high school.

 

 
 

Dawna Furdal, Property Administrator/Manager

Dawna Furdal is a property manager and administrator.  She is responsible for day-to-day property management duties which involves liaising with tenants, contractors and service providers.

Prior to joining First Bay Properties, Dawna was employed as the office manager at a disaster restoration company and prior to that she worked for over 7 years as a financial solutions specialist at one of Canada’s chartered banks.

Dawna holds diplomas in office administration (Algonquin College) and business accounting (St. Clair College).
